As

As I walked into the city I immediately smell the sticky smell of tomatoes.
I looked up and I could see everyone covered in tomatoes. Imagine the sticky feeling of the tomatoes sticking between your toes and the seeds all over you and even in your hair. I could see everyone wearing goggles to protect their eyes.

2) STORMY DAY!!#

Image result for stormy day

As I looked out my matapihi immediately I could see the lightning lighting the whole city like it was day. I could hear the loud BANG and Clash of the horu thunder.  I could smell the electricity. I could feel the wairehu of the ocean as it crashed against the rocks. I could feel the whistling of the wind  rushing straight past me. I could hear the rain crashing down on my roof.

3) SPIDERMAN
IMG_1464.JPG
The sound of the pop of confetti going everywhere. The aroma of the smoke rushing past my nose. As I turned my head I could see spider-man in the confetti, he was covered with all the colours of the rainbow. I could hear the rattling of the train going past me.

The Beekeeper

Quick Write Number One - The Beekeeper

IMG_1185.JPG
For the next two weeks we are going to work on ‘Quick Writes.’  This is where you are given something to write about (a writing prompt) and you only have 10mins to write as much as possible using this writing prompt.

For our writing prompts we will use either images or short videos.

The purpose of this is to practise writing fluently.

When we look at our writing prompt we will have about 10-15 mins to discuss it and brainstorm some ideas and vocabulary.

Our learning goals are to:
-write a description, using powerful words and phrases
-include some Te Reo Māori
-carefully check that our sentences make sense and have correct punctuation and spelling.

When we are writing we need to think about…

  1. What do I want my reader to see?
2) What do I want my reader to hear?
3) What do I want my reader to smell?
Tips:
-look closely at the picture or video
-think about the three key questions and the learning goals
-give yourself time to plan and write

Do your writing here

As I walked through the long orchard, I could hear the sound of my bee’s humming. In the cool and clear karanga spring day I could see the flowers blooming out. The sweet aroma of honey had hit my nose. As I opened the frame a swarm of bees flew out into the distance.

My Robot Rampage writing

This term we have been learning how to write a narrative piece of writing. This is my Robot Rampage writing. Please leave a thoughtful, positive and kind comment.

Richie rich
Every weekend there was one job Mark hated doing: cleaning his room. He’d Much rather be building his latest robot invention in the shed. That was it! What if Mark could build a robot to clean his room?

As soon as Mark had that idea to build a robot he spent all night trying to make it. The first attempt did not work and he tried again and ended up finishing at 4:00am in the morning. When the sun came out Mark went up to his room to test his robot.

He had just pressed the on button and it started to clean his room. Mark was so happy and relaxed that he ended up falling asleep. The robot was as fast as a cheetah. Then suddenly Mark woke up to the sound of a crowd ROARING! (horu) . There was no sign of the robot and Mark noticed the whole neighbourhood was standing all around Marks robot. Mark ran up to them and asked “Is my robot being a nuisance?” “No” said the crowd. Then next the crowd started throwing money on the ground for Mark’s robot. Then every weekend the neighbourhood hired Mark’s robot to clean their house and that’s how Mark became rich.

Maui legends

As part of Matariki we re- read the legends of Maui. We then retold a legend and created artwork. Below is my work.

Jennae: How Maui Slowed The Sun

Maui and his four brothers had no time to do their crops or to do their garden, or even when they have done their hard work they didn’t even have time to play. Maui wanted to do something about it because the sun was just going too fast. Maui and his four brothers made a plan to try and slow down the sun. Maui and his brothers decided to make magical platted ropes to capture the sun and make it slow down. Maui and his brothers had set off to find the sun at night, paddling for miles. When they got to where the sun was  it  was coming out of its hiding place. When it had arose more out of his hiding place Maui and his four brothers threw the ropes over the sun and pulled it down. Maui had caught  the sun and slowed the sun down. The sun had agreed with Maui to slow down.

Persuasive Writing- Why we should have pets

We have been having a go at writing a piece of persuasive writing. Here is my piece of writing about why it is a good idea to have pets.

Title
A Short Statement about the topic.
eg. ‘Rugby League Is A Great Sport’

Good ideas to have pets.

Overview/ Statement of position
A brief statement of your view about the topic.  What you believe or want to argue.
I strongly believe that having a pet is a great benefit to a family.

Series of Arguments
Reasons
Your points supporting your view about the topic.  Your arguments to support your statement and information to support these arguments.

Remember
-argument
-supporting detail, reasons, examples

Firstly, some types of dogs have been trained to do specific jobs. For an example, in Alaska, Huskies guard their owners houses to protect themselves from  wolves and snow foxes. Another dog that is good to have is a sheep dog. They help you if you are having trouble rounding sheep and the dog just chases the sheep and sometimes cows to help the farmer.
I truly believe it is good to have a specific dog to do good jobs.

Secondly, some dogs can tell when their owner has cancer or cancer cells. Also they can tell when their sugar level is high or low. I truly believe it is a good idea to have a dog because sometimes they can warn you when their owner has something wrong with their medical condition.

Thirdly, it’s good to have a cat or a dog so they can get rid of pests such as mice, rats, weasels and stoats which can spread diseases. It is good to have a cat or a dog, because they kill our native birds and also because stoats and weasels eat baby eggs. This has a huge effect on our already endangered animals.

LastIy, I strongly believe it is a good idea to have farm animals like pet sheep, cows, chickens and pigs. It is a good idea because they give you food like a sheep gives you meat, a cow gives you milk, a goat gives you milk and cheese, a chicken gives you eggs and a pig gives you bacon and crackle.

Concluding statement
Summing it up.  A summary of your arguments and your view on the topic.

In conclusion I believe that it is a good idea to have pets because they help people with medical issues, dogs can sense when their owner has cancer,  farm animals give you food, and some dogs have specific jobs to do.
Therefore it is very important for people to have pets.

Persuasive Writing- Why we should fix our field

We have been having a go at writing a piece of persuasive writing. Here is my piece of writing about why we should fix our field.

Title
A Short Statement about the topic.
eg. ‘Rugby League Is A Great Sport’

Whakatika ā mātou whira (Fix Our Field)

Overview/ Statement of position
A brief statement of your view about the topic.  What you believe or want to argue.
I strongly believe we should definitely fix our whira( field) now. My reasons are we  definitely need the field for specific sport events and for training, we also need it for our Karoro School Gala, our school is too crowded without the field and can cause injuries.

Series of Arguments
Reasons
Your points supporting your view about the topic.  Your arguments to support your statement and information to support these arguments.

Remember
-argument
-supporting detail, reasons, examples

Firstly, I strongly think the Mrs Truman and the board of trustees should definitely fix our field. We need to fix our field because we need the field for the Karoro wharekura Gala (Karoro School Gala) We need it for the Karoro School Gala because we won’t be able to have it this year because there won’t be as big of a space as there was in the last years. Also in the Gala we have sometimes a horse riding event and we need it. We need it  because if we fall on grass it won’t be as hard as landing on concrete.

Secondly, I truly believe we also need the space for training and for big sport events.  We need the field for big sports events because if we don’t train we won’t be as good as we could be. An example we need the field for tarai (rugby)training. We need the field because we need to know the  kāwanatanga (rules) and how to play it properly.

I strongly believe we need to keep fit by running around on our field to keep healthy. We need to keep fit because Karoro School would not like to not go outside for fun punipuni (games)

My fourth strong reason we need it fixed. We need it fixed because we have a lot of sports gear we have in the PE shed to use on our field. So if we don’t use it it is a huge amount of putea (money) wasted if we don’t even use the pe gear.

Concluding statement
Summing it up.  A summary of your arguments and your view on the topic.

In conclusion we need to fix our field because we need the field for big sports events and big tātāwhāinga- tournaments, we also need the field because we need it for rugby training so we know how to play, we also need it because we need to keep fit, and finally, we need it for that we need to use the pe gear for something. IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT KARORO SCHOOL HAS A FIELD!
