Toki Pounamu Film Festival

Toki Pounamu Film Festival Review

On Thursday the 14th of November,  the Toki Pounamu team were hosting a film festival at the Regent Theatre, Greymouth.  The film festival was made to show schools videos involving the idea of, ‘Our Place,’ for the schools and students within the Toki Pounamu cluster. People entered their movies they made including the native bush, gold mining, ocean, coal mining, histories, etc. The schools that entered into the event were Karoro School, Greymain School, Saint Patricks, Kaniere School, Paparoa Range, Kumara School, Paroa School and Blaketown School.

All these schools entered in videos and there was one particular movie I enjoyed. The one I liked the most was the movie made by Saint Patricks. Their movie was about the dangers the environment is facing and what we are doing to help. They talked about the pollution in the oceans throughout the coast wide and even greater, world wide. In their video they interviewed the old mayor, Tony Kokshoorn to gather some information. Tony talked about DOC looking after 80% of the native bush/ environment, building a new recycling pit and Greymouth citizens doing their part to resolve the matter of global warming. The students of Saint Patrick's asked, “If we do not make a change would our next generations have a future?”
Tony replied, “Yes they would, but not a very good one.” The video they made wa s entertaining and was very well filmed with great sound with clear voices and a great understanding of the movie.

The way the Toki Pounamu team chose the videos to put into the 1 hour time limit that were entered, was definitely a fair decision. Some videos had some  restrictions that were unsuitable for younger students that were attending the film festival event. I agree that this was a good decision they chose to do and I support it.

Honey Bee Animation

Honey Bee Animation

Below is the animation I have made with a honey bee. Today the 17th of September, Mrs Minehan has came into our classroom and helped us to create  animations. This was my first time doing this type of animation from a slidehow and I really enjoyed trying it out.

With our animation we wanted these animation video to loop which means to restart the video once it has finished  and we can also change the speed the animation can go. We can do this by going in the,' HTML," and change the two falses to trues and the number 3000 to the speed your would like you animation to be.

Please leave a thoughtful, helpful and positive comment on my work.

Scratch Animations

In Room Eight we have

to learn how to use scratch. I have used scratch before and I have made several projects but I made one based on the comic strips I have been doing.  This the phrase is  " ka pai to panui" which means great reading. This is a link to a video I have screen recorded of my scratch work below as well as the video.  For the last week of school we have to add sound into our animations so here is my one.
ENJOY!

Trip To Noho Marae Recount

Noho Marae Recount

On the 5th of March Ruma Tahi and Ruma Waru went to the Noho Marae for an overnight trip. When we got to the marae we had to go through the powhiri process. The powhiri process is a way of being welcomed onto a sacred place. I have went to the marae before and did the same things. When we finished the powhiri process we went to the wharekai. A whare kai is a place where you can dine and have food and drink. Both of out classes went to the wharekai and had a little snack. We had red velvet cake with mince, potato top and bacon and egg savories.
After we had had a little snack or lunch we went back in the marae to introduce ourselves to the people of the marae. We all individually standed up one at a time and said aloud our mihis.
Once we had finished saying our mihi’s we had to fill out an  activity book. The activity books asked things like what these parts of the marae  are and we even had to draw some tokutoku.
Again after we had done all these we went back to the wharekai for lunch. We all had to  bring our own lunch boxes and had lunch.
Once we had all had lunch we went to the beach. It was hard for me because I was on crutches at the time and I had to go other huge and uneven rocks. Even though I was on crutches I did find some pounamu down at the Arahura RIver. So I got a ride back with Matt ( one of the parents there). When we came back we had had dinner. For dinner we had chicken, vegetables and roast potatoes. I didn’t really eat much because I wasn’t hungry at the time.
We came out of the marae and starting doing night activities. The things we could do were, ki o rahi, rippa rugby, carving and flax weaving. Then we went to bed.

The next day we were going to do a walk but I wasn’t really allowed because my hands would really sore from the crutches so I didn’t go on the walk. I ended up having breakfast before everyone then getting dropped home by my principal.

Overall I had a really fun time at the marae and really enjoyed myself. I wouldn’t of done everything without Milan and Hannah helping me so I thanked them alot for what they had done.

Lake Daniell Tramp Response

Lake Daniell Response

On Wednesday the 12th of June Room One and Room Eight had planned to go out on a tramp called Lake Daniell. Our classes are doing this because we entered into the William Pike Challenge again and this is one of the things we are doing for it.

In the morning we all got told our car groups and both classes headed in their car groups they got told they were in and left to go to Reefton. In my car group there | was Hannah, Nathan, Cailan, Hannah and Nathan’s dad and obviously myself.

So Wayne, Hannah’s dad drove us towards Reefton. On the car ride to Reefton Nathan and Cailan were being| really funny and made the start of my day better already.  We finally got to Reefton. We all got out of our cars and some of us went to the toilet and the other people ran around through the bush. We had to jump back into the car and headed for Springs Junction.

Now, everyone finally got to the start of the tramp. Ms Kemp went through everyone and gave them a number, mine was 22. We all did a count off and then started the tramp. I walked with my friend Milan and my brother Jack.

Walking through the tramp was really cool. There were heaps of different kinds of Beech Trees and it was interesting to see different types of plants. Everyone was very supportive to others and helped them along the way.

Ms Kemp also gave set group each a scavenger hunt to do. In my scavenger group I had Milan and Brighid. We all worked together to kind plants or animals on the tramp like different trees and birds like the South Island Kaka and the  Long Tailed Bat.

Along the tramp people like  Milan and Aimee said that I had a nice t-shirt or either a nice bag. I really enjoyed the way up to Lake Daniell it was really nice and the lake was really cool. On the way back my brother felt really sick and had been twisting his ankles a lot, so I walked with him the whole way back and helped him with anything.

Altogether I really enjoyed this tramp and I recommend this to anyone who likes to go tramping because its nice and easy and it’s good to get outside and enjoy the world around us.

Maths Hexagon

Maths Hexagon

Today in maths Sasha, Hannah and I had been given a piece of paper with some triangles on it and we had to cut them all out and put the sides correctly together to make a shape. Each triangle had had answers to some questions and some sides had the questions. We had to match them all up and complete a shape. in the end we realised we had made a hexagon. This task was based on our area and perimeter maths work. Below is a picture of our finsihed piece.
