Activity 2 Week One, Day Four (4 Points)

Dear Mum,

thank you for sending me on this trip it is a new experience
so far. I never knew what it felt like to be in  place so dry and
empty but now I do. When I was staying there it sort of felt and sounded
like what a desert would. It was very cold, although at night it was warmer
for some reason. Once again mum, I am really enjoying this new experience
thank you.

Week One Day Five Activity 1 (4 points)

Success Criteria: On your blog tell us whether you think logging should be allowed in New Zealand. Be sure to provide at least two reasons to support your argument.

I think logging helps us humans from the wood made into paper but mostly I don’t think logging should be allowed in New Zealand.

I think it shouldn’t be allowed in New Zealand because when these builders cut down trees its actually killing animals that are living in that tree. They are also forcing them to rebuild and find a  home somewhere else but then that tree might get cut down as well they moved to, so this cycle goes over and over again.

Another reason that might be the same is that its not only killing our common birds such as the sparrow birds it’s killing our native birds like the tui, black robins and the New Zealand bellbird.

I also think that we can still log in Aotearoa. I just think we only can used a specific amount of trees for logging so it decreses the number of native trees, birds and their homes.

But not only the native birds the logging is also killing the native trees such as the endangered pine tree, rimu, totara, pohutukawa etc.

Personal Comment: I strongly believe that logging is not a good thing here to be doing in New Zealand because of all the reasons above.

Activity 3 Salt and Pepper (5 points, 5 Bonus For Hotel Room (10 Points)Success Criteria: On your blog tell us where you would build your hotel and what you would use to build it. For an extra five points, use Google Drawings to design one room in your hotel. You can also use a paper and pencil to draw your room, take a picture of the drawing, and post it on your blog.

If I had to build a hotel I would build it on the beach of the Gold Coast Australia . To build my hotel I would use concrete slabs for the walls and paint them different colours or put wallpapers on them. I would have some type of steel for my hotel that doesn’t rust from the ocean sea spray. For the roof I would build it with iron  steel primed and painted. I would also use cranes for lifting things to the hotel and diggers and trucks for carrying concrete over to the hotel.

Activity 2 Homemade Crumbed Chicken Recipe (4 points)
Success Criteria: For this activity you are asked to choose one of your favourite foods. On your blog, write the name of your favourite food and then tell us how to make it. You may need to ask a family member, friend or Google (!) for help, if you do not normally make this food for yourself.

Glenda Kennedys (my mums)  Own Crumbed Chicken Recipe

Ingredients:
-Chicken pieces
-Bread Crumbs
-Maggi Green herb stock powder
-Packet of Maggi cream chicken soup mix
-Butter and oil needs to be melted in a pot on low temperature

Method:

1) Remove the skin off the chicken.
2)Coat the chicken in butter and oil mix.
3)Now coat the chicken with all the dry ingredients.
4)Refrigerate for 30 minutes(not necessary).
5)In the oven put on bake line the tray with baking paper for
approximately 80 minutes turning the chicken over once at 150 degrees celsius.
6)Cook until golden brown.

Success Criteria: Let’s imagine that you met Sir Edmund Hillary in real life and

were able to interview him.

On your blog, post five questions that you would like to ask Sir Edmund Hillary

about his life.

1) What other interests were you in  when you were in school?

2) How did you physically have to prepare to climb Mount Everest ,

and hours per week(personal training).

3)Who helped you along the way to achieve your goals?

4) Has it always been your dream at a young age to climb Mount

Everest or did you decide later on?

5) What employment were you in after you conquered Mount Everest

and returned home?

Activity 3 WWF ( World Wildlife Fund) 10 points
Success Criteria:In 1961, a number of people came together to start
an organisation called the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The main goal of
this organisation was/is to protect life on earth. Hundreds of WWF staff work
in countries all over the world trying to protect our planet and the animals
who live here. To learn more about their amazing work, click on one of the two
video links below.Once you have watched the video, go to your blog and,
using full sentences. Tell us:1) The name of the animal the WWF is working to
save. 2) What the WWF is doing to help the animal. 3) What, if any, success they have had protecting the animal.

The type of animal the WWF team is trying to save is a freshwater seal called the
Saimaa Ringed Seal. What the WWF is doing to help save the Saimaa Ringed Seal
is mother seals dig into snow banks to give birth to their pups. If they don’t give birth to
their pups in snow banks they give birth to them on open snow without protection they
can quite quickly lead to death. So the WWF people helped the seals by digging them
snowbanks for them to give birth in. The WWF team has helped the seals a lot.
Back before the 1980’s there were about 120 individual seals left and in 1979 when
the WWF team started to help there the number of seal increased to 390 individual seals.

Activity 2 The Secretive Skink (4 points)

Success Criteria: On your blog list three pros (good things) and three

cons (bad things) about working as a DOC ranger. At the bottom of your

post, tell us whether you would like to be a DOC Ranger or not.

Good Things                                                            

-One good thing about being a DOC ranger is that they are

helping little animals everywhere over NZ such as the native

Kiwi.

-A second good thing about being a DOC ranger is that they

help our environment such as native trees.

-Lastly a good thing about being a DOC ranger is that 1080

does still help our New Zealand animals by  killing all their

predators mostly just pests but there are bad things as well

about 1080.

Bad Things

-One bad thing about being a DOC ranger is that they want 1080.

1080 is a poison that gets put everywhere to kill pests but its not

only killing pest its killing farm dogs, native birds, horses, cats,

sheep etc.

-A second bad thing about being a DOC ranger is if you are in the

bush locating animals or plants or helping them, hunters close by

may think you are a deer or some type of hunting animal and you

can get shot easily.

-The last bad thing about being a DOC ranger is that you don’t get

paid much for doing the job. The minimum pay for a job an hour is
$16.50 and some DOC rangers get paid $15 which is below on how
much you should be paid.

When I am old enough I wouldn't want to work as a DOC ranger.
I wouldn't want to because all this stuff about 1080 is annoying me how
they want to use it.
Although I would also love to help the environment, trees, native birds
and other animals to let them live for longer and to stop them being
endangered and going extinct. This is also a job I wouldn't really be
interested in even though I love animals and like to help them I
just think working as a doc ranger is not a good job for me.
