Jake Bailey Speech

Jake Bailey Speech

Jake Bailey Speech

On Wednesday the 31st of July this 21 year old, Jake Bailey visited our school. Jack Bailey was here to tell us heaps of | things. He told  us about his battle with cancer, how to be brave and how individuals can be happy and what its like to be in a bad situation and to have resilience. Jake Bailey was paired with the Life Education for him to be able to come to Karoro School and to speak to us.

Jake Bailey was telling the senior school heaps of things like how to be happy. He said,  “Things that might have made you happy, now since you have been through a rough time they might not make you happy again.”  Jake was telling us about bravery. “Bravery,” he said, “ reminded him of the ANZACs.” He got many visitors telling him how brave he was but he  thought he wasn’t at all. Jake felt like he was really scared. Jake had many worries in school like if he got into trouble and forgetting to do his homework. Little things like that he said, “I didn’t think of my little worries, there was more to worry about than little things.”

Jake talked a lot about having resilience by keeping on doing what you're doing and never giving up.

Jake Bailey had one major thing to say to everyone that was very important. What he had to say to all of us was, “ You need to take every opportunity to give everything you do 100% and to be your very best for those who can’t.”

Jake Bailey was a very motivational speaker. He was very inspiring and made people change what they think of their lives.

Maori Phrase Of The Week

Maori Phrase Of The Week

In Ruma Waru (Room Eight) We are learning to use simple Māori phrases.

Below is a photo with a voice of me saying the maori phrase of the week. I have never used this app called "Chatter Pix" before but it went quite well and its really easy to use.

Equivalent Fraction Maths Diamond

Equivalent Fraction Maths Diamond

In Room Eight this week we have been learning about equivalent fractions and how to simplify them. Below is a diamond that me and my maths partner "Hannah," worked on together. This diamond is an equivalent one. Equivalent means  "the same as."  We had to find fractions that were equal to ( same as) other fractions and then we had to  simplify them.

In Room Eight we have

to learn how to use scratch. I have used scratch before and I have made several projects but I made one based on the comic strips I have been doing.  This the phrase is  " ka pai to panui" which means great reading. This is a link to a video I have screen recorded of my scratch work below as well as the video.  For the last week of school we have to add sound into our animations so here is my one.
ENJOY!

Trip To Noho Marae Recount

Noho Marae Recount

On the 5th of March Ruma Tahi and Ruma Waru went to the Noho Marae for an overnight trip. When we got to the marae we had to go through the powhiri process. The powhiri process is a way of being welcomed onto a sacred place. I have went to the marae before and did the same things. When we finished the powhiri process we went to the wharekai. A whare kai is a place where you can dine and have food and drink. Both of out classes went to the wharekai and had a little snack. We had red velvet cake with mince, potato top and bacon and egg savories.
After we had had a little snack or lunch we went back in the marae to introduce ourselves to the people of the marae. We all individually standed up one at a time and said aloud our mihis.
Once we had finished saying our mihi’s we had to fill out an  activity book. The activity books asked things like what these parts of the marae  are and we even had to draw some tokutoku.
Again after we had done all these we went back to the wharekai for lunch. We all had to  bring our own lunch boxes and had lunch.
Once we had all had lunch we went to the beach. It was hard for me because I was on crutches at the time and I had to go other huge and uneven rocks. Even though I was on crutches I did find some pounamu down at the Arahura RIver. So I got a ride back with Matt ( one of the parents there). When we came back we had had dinner. For dinner we had chicken, vegetables and roast potatoes. I didn’t really eat much because I wasn’t hungry at the time.
We came out of the marae and starting doing night activities. The things we could do were, ki o rahi, rippa rugby, carving and flax weaving. Then we went to bed.

The next day we were going to do a walk but I wasn’t really allowed because my hands would really sore from the crutches so I didn’t go on the walk. I ended up having breakfast before everyone then getting dropped home by my principal.

Overall I had a really fun time at the marae and really enjoyed myself. I wouldn’t of done everything without Milan and Hannah helping me so I thanked them alot for what they had done.
