Summer learning Journey, Week One/Day Two Activity 3

Activity 3 Weird and Wonderful ( 10 Points)
Success Criteria:
On your blog, tell us how to solve this maths problem. You can write your answer in words, use a Sketchpad image, or post a video explaining how you would figure it out. Be sure to give us your final answer in millilitres (ml). Let’s imagine that you are given a cactus for your birthday. To keep it alive, you must give it 3 ml of water every day. Over one full year, how much water will you need to give your cactus plant?

This is the video of me showing how to figure out this maths problem.

Thank you for your interesting video about watering your cactus. I thought your working out was accurate and clearly explained. I wondered what your millilitre measurement would be if you converted it to litres? I also wondered how your measurement would change if the year was a Leap year? I think one way to improve your video would be to include the cactus! Make sure that you set your videos to share on the web so that a viewer would not have to request access. Ka pai to mahi.

  2. Kia Ora Jennae,
I couldn't look at your video because I have to request access.
    Please could you change that.

  3. Hi Jennae

Thank you for choosing a different way to present your findings for this activity. It was a very clear video on exactly how you solved the problem. Great to see that you can show this. It is always good if you can show your working out to prove you know what you are talking about. Rather than just giving us the answer.
I wondered if you have thought about the fact if it was a leap year. Doesn't change the answer by much, but it does change it.
Three mils a day is not much water at all to survive on, but when you add it up over the whole year it looks like a lot more.

My daughter has cactus plants in her room and they have mighty big prickles on them. I think she likes them because it doesn't really matter if she forgets to water them for a while. Which happens a lot! She manages to keep them alive not like other plants.

Hi hope that you are having a great holiday so far. I know you have gone away now as I am writing this comment. Have fun and thanks for all your hard work with the SLJ.

    Until next time

    Allie :)
