Summer Learning Journey Week One/Day Five Activity 3

Activity 3 Week One Day Five (10 points)

Success Criteria: On your blog, post a description of life in New Zealand in 2018. Please remember that the people who read your post will have never been to New Zealand or even seen a picture so it is your job to ‘paint a picture’ of New Zealand using your words. You can also post pictures, if you wish. Be sure to fully attribute the pictures.

Kia Ora, Ko Jennae toku ingoa, (hi I'm Jennae).
I have been living in Greymouth, New Zealand for 12 years, I am 12.
Aotearoa the land of the long white cloud you wake up and take a breath of the fresh kiwi air. The beautiful lush bush surrounds everywhere you look. The sound of the trickling water falling from the sky and hitting your roof. The bright blood red poppies bloom out onto fresh green fields. A cold camping night you can hear the buzzing of the mosquitoes
and the vampire like sand flies come out to bite. Bustling crowds of tourists stride along the streets of New Zealand. Glistening white snow sprinkles along the peak of the maunga's(mountains).

This is a free to use image of poppies.

  1. Kia ora Jennae,

What a great start you have made to this activity, I love that you have greeted everyone and introduced yourself in Māori, ka pai (good work)! You're bringing our very own unique culture to curious tourists before they even come visit us, excellent work Jennae! It's awesome to see you translating the Māori words so that everyone can understand and learn a bit of the language while they're reading your post.

I wonder what it's like living in the South Island in Greymouth. I live in the North Island in Auckland and I've been there my whole life, just like you have been in Greymouth. I've been to a few different countries and I still think that our air is the freshest so we're very lucky to be surrounded by it everyday! I love that you have remembered to mention the poppies, they're definitely a symbolic flower here in our country! It doesn't snow here in Auckland, does it ever snow in Greymouth? Once again, you've done a wonderful job of using adjectives to enhance your writing.

    Best,
    Evelyn :)
